Darius Pitre credits The Posse Foundation with helping him secure his dream job as a production engineer at Apache Corporation. In 2015, Pitre was studying petroleum engineering at Texas A&M University and considering options for a summer internship during a downturn in the oil and gas industry. With the support of a Posse stipend for low-paying but high social impact internships, Pitre spent the summer of 2015 as a physics teacher for eighth graders in an underserved community in New Orleans. The students inspired Pitre to continue to pursue his dreams of becoming an engineer in the energy industry, and he has been working at Apache since 2018.
Apache is excited to launch a multi-year partnership with The Posse Foundation in 2021 and help other outstanding young people achieve their goals. Posse is a national college access and youth leadership development organization that recruits and trains students with extraordinary leadership potential. The Posse model is rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students—a posse —carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for individual and community development. Posse scholars complete eight months of pre-college training, receive four years of leadership development and support during college and go on to achieve career aspirations with the continued support of Posse mentors.
“This is an investment in a leadership program that will develop diverse talent and future leaders within our local and global communities,” said Fay Fitzsimons, Apache’s manager of government affairs and community partnerships. “The partnership will also create opportunities for Apache employees to mentor and engage with scholars in the hopes of cultivating some for future careers at Apache.”
