Initiatives

Apache applies technological innovation in its operations around the globe.

Apache employees are involved in a constant process of pulling assets apart, identifying opportunities for further exploitation, and putting them back together.  Some examples of recent initiatives include:

North Sea 4-D

North Sea 4-D

When Apache acquired Forties in 2003, the field had been in production for nearly 30 years and had given up more than 2 billion barrels of oil; proved reserves were estimated at 144 million barrels of oil equivalent. Since then, Apache has drilled about 100 wells. Through 2010, the North Sea region had produced more than 150 million barrels – and proved reserves stood at 155 million barrels.  How?  By applying the latest technological breakthroughs in the Forties fields.  Recent wells were identified using Apache’s latest 4-D seismic survey – a geophysical technique that compares data from a series of 3-D surveys to track the movement of oil within the formation.

Debolt Water Treatment Plant project

Debolt Water Treatment Plant Project

The Debolt water treatment plant is a joint project with Apache and Encana to provide non-potable water from the Debolt reservoir to the Horn River basin operations.  The water treatment plant started operations in June 2010 and has helped Apache and Encana decreased use of surface water and secured access to an integrated water treatment and distribution system that allows for full recovery and re-use of fracture fluids. The Debolt plant is the first of its kind, and it won the 2011 Environmental Award from Responsible Canadian EnergyTM.

Horn River

Environmentally concerned investor interface

Apache is actively involved in discussing concerns about hydraulic fracturing, well construction, and onshore/offshore safety with investor institutions and governmental agencies.
