External collaboration

Apache takes pride in active engagement with external stakeholders like universities, technical societies, national labs and service companies.

Several of Apache technology staff serve on university industry advisory boards, as well as play an active role in technical societies (SPE, SEG, AAPG, IADC, AADE, etc.).  Some have served or are currently serving at the highest levels in these societies in the capacity of president, distinguish lecturatures, technical conference organizing committies, etc.

Apache strongly encourages its staff to actively participate in these technical societies, workshops and forums. External publication of technical papers in conferences and journals is encouraged.

Apache also values it relationships with external service providers and participates in several joint industry-sponsored projects (JIP’s) encompassing a wide range of technical subjects.

Apache Petrophysics Research center

Apache Petrophysics Research LabIn June 2010, Apache donated $1 million to the University of Oklahoma (OU) Mewbourne School of Petroleum and Geological Engineering (MPGE) to support the Apache Petrophysics Research Center (pictured right).

This investment will be used to expand the existing measurement capacity within OU's graduate research laboratory and develop new capabilities in micro- to nano-scale imaging of rock fabric, improving fluid flow measurement in ultra-low permeable rock, providing new instrumentation and automating lab data collection and archiving.

The investment will also be used to evaluate new methods of measuring cuttings (or very small sample sizes) so that profiles of the physical properties of rock can be described in horizontal wellbores. The lab's new capabilities will allow Apache to evaluate existing and proposed measurement approaches and obtain an objective and independent assessment of measurements provided by commercial laboratories.
