Apache has drilled many successful exploration wells in Permit WA-356-P.
Development of the Julimar and Brunello natural gas fields in the Carnarvon Basin, offshore Western Australia – two of Apache’s largest gas discoveries – is a key driver in the company’s expansion into the rapidly growing worldwide liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.
The Julimar and Brunello gas fields, discovered by Apache and Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co. (KUFPEC) in 2007, are located offshore in exploration permit WA-356-P, approximately 180 kilometres (km) (112 miles) west-northwest of Dampier in Western Australia.
In 2009, Apache and KUFPEC joined with Chevron to develop the Wheatstone LNG hub. Apache and KUFPEC agreed to supply gas from their Julimar and Brunello fields and to become foundation equity partners in the Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG project.

The Julimar Development Project is located in the WA-356P exploration permit in the Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia.
Apache has a 65 percent interest in the Julimar and Brunello fields and a 13 percent equity interest in the first phase of the Wheatstone project.
The first phase of the Wheatstone LNG project comprises an offshore central processing platform, a 225-kilometer (140-mile) pipeline to shore and onshore gas liquefaction consisting of two processing trains with a combined production capability of approximately 8.9 million tonnes of LNG per year. The onshore facilities, located at the Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Area near Onslow, also include storage and offloading infrastructure and a domestic gas plant.
The JDP will consist of subsea gas production wells drilled from three drill centers and two satellite locations. Each of the wells will be tied into a subsea manifold. The manifolds will be connected using intra-field flowlines and linked to the offshore Wheatstone platform by twin raw gas production lines.

The Julimar Development Project is expected to unlock in excess of 2.1 trillion cubic feet of sales gas from the Julimar and Brunello fields generating net sales to Apache of approximately 140 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd) of LNG (1.07 MMtpa), 22 MMcfd of sales gas into the domestic market and 3,250 barrels of condensate per day.
Apache is proud to be part of the Wheatstone LNG project – set to become one of Australia’s largest resource projects and one of the most advanced LNG projects in the world, supplying clean-burning natural gas to meet the growing energy demands of north Asia and Western Australia.
