On July 17, nine Apache North Sea summer interns visited the Weatherford training facility in Aberdeen for a tour of a land rig.

"The rig visit was highly interesting to me as it was an area that I had studied but never seen in person, which really helped me fully understand the process," said George Irvine-Sisk, Engineering intern.

Sisk along with the other interns joined a training exercise on how incorrect torque measurements can result in damaged tubing. Following that, they saw a control area, muds tanks and various drill bits.

"It was great to see these in a working environment, and I now have a much better idea of the scale of the equipment used during drilling operations and the hazards this poses," said Hannaha Watts, Geophysics intern. "I am also grateful for the opportunity to chat with the staff at Weatherford."

Donald Keir, Apache petrophysical advisor, organized the land rig tour. "Before this trip, none of our interns had seen a working rig," he said. "For those who will never get the opportunity to go offshore, it was a great way for them to see what goes on at the end of our business, and for those who will get the opportunity, it was a good taste of things to come."

The Apache North Sea summer interns in attendance at the rig visit included Hannah Watts, Exploration; Corrie Anderson, Exploration; Ailsa Wilcox, Process Engineering; George Irvine-Sisk, Production Engineering; Suzi Carson, Projects; Jayne Gulland, Projects; Jonathon Summers, Projects; Rachel McDermott, Procurement and Contracts; Aimee McCaffrey, Procurement and Contracts.
