There are many types of crude produced throughout the world, and they are usually defined by how dense or thick the crude is and how much sulfur is contained in the crude.

When we refer to volumes of production or reserves, we refer to them at "standard conditions."  In general, those conditions are 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 14.7 pounds per square inch absolute.
