Alex C. de Alvarez

Vice President — Security

Alex C. de AlvarezALEX C. DE ALVAREZ, 44, was appointed Vice President – Security, in January 2008.

He joined Apache with an extensive background in corporate and national security, specializing in energy infrastructure security. Shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Mr. de Alvarez accepted a position as an infrastructure security expert with the U.S. Department of Energy. He was instrumental in setting up the Department of Homeland Security while serving in the White House Homeland Security Transition Planning Office during President George W. Bush’s first administration. His highest-ranking appointment was as the director of energy assurance at the U.S. Department of Energy. Prior to the 9/11 attacks, he was director of security and safety at Enron Broadband Services. His previous experience includes several years as a clandestine operations officer at the CIA and as a captain in the United States Marine Corps.

Most recently, he was the principal of Energy Assurance LLC, a privately held strategic consulting company. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political philosophy from the University of Dallas.
